The palette problem with useful things
Genuinely useful desk objects are almost always black or white. Chargers, speakers, clocks and small appliances get made in those colors because they disappear into an office. On a pink-and-lavender desk they don’t disappear, they just sit there as a dark or stark rectangle in the middle of a soft palette.
So the constraint for this list stayed narrow: the object has to be good at its job, and it has to come in pink as a standard option rather than a limited run. That’s why the clock is the same 9.7 inch family the last two Vol. 5 lists used in other colors, and why the charger is a plain 3-in-1 that happens to be pink.
Two categories that weren’t here before
The humidifier and the desk lamp are new to this combination. Ocean, Space and Cyberpunk Vol. 5 all used a desk fan and a mesh drawer organizer instead, and this list swaps both out rather than repeating the same six categories a fourth time.
The humidifier gives up airflow for a small amount of moisture and a soft cycling light, which suits a pastel desk better than a plastic fan blade usually does. The lamp gives up drawer storage for actual task lighting, aimed at a keyboard instead of the room, which is arguably more useful on a desk that doesn’t have a drawer to organize in the first place.
What carries over, and why
The charger, the speaker, the clock and the planters keep the thread running from the last three Vol. 5 releases. The speaker is the one purely audio pick, styled like a vintage radio instead of a black cylinder, and it’s the first speaker any pastel volume has included. The clock holds one color instead of cycling through several, the same reasoning Ocean and Space applied to their own clocks: a device that loops through a rainbow spends most of the evening off-palette.
The planters close the list out the same way they have for three volumes running. A plant is the only object here that looks different next month than it does today, and that’s true whether the pots around it are pink, purple or teal.
